브리스톨마이어스, 직원 10% 감축한다

이달중 8백여명..2012년까지 25억불 감축

세계적인 제약회사인 GSK, 화이자등에 이어 브리스톨마이어스도 직원 감축에 나선다. 브리스톨 마이어스는 전체 임직원의 10%(4,300여명)가량을 감축할 예정이며 이달중 800여명을 해고할 것이라고 블룸버그통신이 보도했다. 브리스톨 마이어스의 이같은 계획은 오는 2012년까지 25억달러의 비용을 절감하기위한 것으로 보인다.

Today’s cuts are part of the New York-based drugmaker’s plan to reduce costs by $2.5 billion by 2012, when the company faces competition to its two biggest drugs, Sonia Choi, a Bristol-Myers spokeswoman, said in a telephone interview. The New York-based company said a year ago it would fire workers and leave positions unfilled to reduce employment by 4,300, or 10 percent. Bristol-Myers faces generic competition for its blood- thinner Plavix and loses rights to the mood-stabilizer Abilify in 2012. The drugs had combined sales of $6.4 billion last year. Bristol-Myers had 42,000 employees in December 2007, according to company regulatory filings. The plan to eliminate jobs and reduce costs “is designed to address the challenges and uncertainties that our company faces in the short and long term,” Choi said.
