일반약 혼용시 생명위험 부작용 가능성

美, 와파린과 아스피린 병용이 가장 흔해

일반 의약품을 여러가지 병용하면 자칫 생명을 위협하는 부작용을 겪을수도 있다는 경고가 연구결과로 나왔다. 현재 미국의 성인 25명 가운데 한명은 여러약을 함께복용하고 있는 상황. 미국 시카고 대학 연구팀이 57세에서 84세까지의 성인 3천명 이상을 대상으로 조사해 이번주 미국 의학협회 저널에 게재한 연구 결과에 따르면 이 같은 부작용의 절반가량은 처방전 없이 구입할 수 있는 일반판매약 및 다이어트 보조제들과 연관된 것으로 밝혀졌다.

또한 남성이 여성에 비해 약물 혼합복용에 따른 부작용 위험이 더 높으며 특히 75세에서 85세의 남성들의 경우가 가장 취약한 계층으로 나타났다. 이밖에도 조사 대상자 가운데 처방약을 복용하고 있는 사람들의 3분의 2 이상은 처방약과 함께 최소한 한가지 이상의 일반판매약을 복용하고 있다고 응답했다. 이 대학 산부인과 디마 콰토 연구원은 "내과의사들은 환자가 복용하고 있는 약들을 모두 알고 있지 못할 수도 있고 환자들은 자신이 이용하는 약물들이 안전하지 못할 가능성을 모르는 경우가 있다" 며 약들의 혼합복용 위험성에 대한 주의를 촉구했다. 한편 가장 흔한 부작용은 와파린이라는 처방전약과 일반판매약인 아스피린을 함께 복용했을 때 발생할 수 있는 내출혈이며 아스피린과 은행 함유 보조제의 혼합 복용 역시 심각한 부작용을 야기할 수 있다. <기사원문> At least one in 25 older adults who use multiple medications are taking them in combinations that can lead to potentially life-threatening drug interactions, University of Chicago researchers have found. Half of these interactions involve over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements. And men -- especially those between 75 and 85 -- are more likely than women to mix drugs in potentially harmful combinations, the researchers found. The findings, published in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association, come from a survey of more than 3,000 adults ages 57 to 84. More than two-thirds on prescription drugs said they also took at least one over-the-counter medication at the same time. "Physicians may not be aware of all the medications their patients are taking, and patients may not know that the medications they are using are potentially unsafe," said study co-author Dima Qato, a research associate in obstetrics and gynecology at U. of C. In one of the most common interactions, the prescription drug warfarin, combined with nonprescription aspirin, can cause internal bleeding. Another dangerous mix was aspirin with Ginkgo biloba supplements.
